One Pencil Skirt Two WaysΒ

What’s a Monday without a post from me right? Wrong! Don’t tell me you were wondering why I dint post a post on Monday…I wouldn’t buy it even for a second but yes lament about it I will! Due to some technical glitches faced by this technically severely challenged fashion blogger (I had to convert CR2 files to JPG…nope I dint know how to do that 😬 judge me!) I was unable to post yesterday but fret not here I am with a new post and this one today is about a pencil skirt which I came to own a couple of months ago. Now a pencil skirt can be a tricky piece of clothing especially for the ummmm…how do I put this subtly…the pear-shaped people like me! I have always shied away from them but then I realized I could make it work if I paired it with the right blouse. So here’s how I used my pencil skirt to create a morning and an evening look (both however shot in the afternoon…sorry you should have seen that PJ coming πŸ˜πŸ’πŸ»)

Morning Look

For the formal look I kinda toned down my bright coral-peach skirt with a teal shirt which hit the right length such that it covered the problem areas well enough πŸ‘

I kept the look pretty simple with a gold tassel long chain I have been obsessed with and a coral flower earring. I opted for my Zara flats which are both comfortable for an all day use and a bit dressy too with all the gold detailing.

A close up under some white light so that you can see the 1) winged eyeliner swag I’m pulling off 2) the actual color of my top and 3) the winged eyeliner swag I’m pulling off…oh yeah!

Evening Look

The evening look was without doubt so much more exciting to create! I’m the most comfortable person in bubble tops but I find they do absolutely nothing to accentuate our figure so when I realized I could play around with the blouse since I had a structured skirt my hands instantly reached out to this fun bubble top I love!

This attention pose has become something of a favorite though everyone around actively hates it πŸ˜‚

For this look I decided to carry my golden glitter clutch and I brought out my much used and abused glitter pumps. I traded the quaint tassel chain for this chunky peach beads and completed the look with my used and reused cat eye glasses!

And again a closeup shot because forgedaboutme just look at that cute kids face painted 😍

FestiveFun IndoWestern ColorBurst!Β

Hi and GoodMorning my lovely readers! Hope you had enough and more fun this past weekend to take on Monday headstrong! πŸ˜› As a final part to my festive fun theme here’s my last IndoWestern fusion look. I have paired my palazzo pants which has shown its “flair” on this blog long ago with a contrast kurta and a colorful dupatta! Let’s go straight into the look!

I love this pink and blue combination and I often wear this kurta to work with blue bottoms. So pairing it with these blue palazzos were a no-brainer!

I completed the look with a topknot and a gorgeous pair of heels in the same colour scheme!

Sorry about the squinting in every photo! We shot this look in the afternoon and the sun was in my eye at every angle!

Another way of wearing this look and making it look a little festive is wearing a tank top and wearing the dupatta around it knotted at the waist like a jacket! Take a looook!

My beautiful neckpiece is seen at last in this look! Yayyy 😍

Such a look is so easy to recreate because who doesn’t have palazzos these days and they look gorgeous with kurtas. Also, if you are one of those girls who has lost interest in wearing jeans then these outfits are the way to go babe trust me! Advice from a person who’s been there and done that!

Outfit details : Kurta and Palazzo pants – Fabindia; Heels – Flipkart; Square long chain – Sundari Silks; Tank top (racer back) – Jockey; Dupatta – Mom’s very old and Unknown!

That’s all from me folks! Hope you enjoyed this short and sweet post! Please tell me that you’ll try recreating this look for the festivities ahead! Have an amazing week! May all your to-do lists have nothing but satisfying strike throughs by the end of this week! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜ƒ Ciao!

IndoWestern FestiveFun OutfitIdeas!Β

In an attempt to make the most of the festive season while we are at the end of it I bring to you another indowestern outfit you can try for functions and festivals. Warning : whatever be your age this outfit will make you look (and feel) like a 12 year old (assuming you are older than that ofcourse) so be prepared πŸ˜‹now that I have given you the heads up, let’s jump straight into the outfit!
This ikat printed skirt was a piece I bought nearly six months ago. It has been lying around without being worn only because I did not have a top for it! With the skirt I had bought this mustard running material but who does tough things like going to the tailor and getting it stitched right? 😐
So recently I decided it was high time and I pushed my lazy ass to the tailors and told them the exact pattern I wanted (courtesy : YouTube and Pinterest πŸ’ƒπŸΌ) and once the top was done, voila! A grand outfit was ready! 😍

This is a beautiful printed skirt with so much flair! It gives a school girly charm and makes for a great outfit to wear while visiting friends and relatives for Navrathri I have in one occasion before stitched an halter neck blouse for a saree and I realized halter neck makes your shoulders and whole profile look slim and that’s why I decided to go halter for this top.

I completed the look with a set a gold earrings (chandbalis?) and a tan brown pair of jodhpuri sandals. I decided to wear nothing on my hands or neck and thought that really made the outfit the king.

I loved the way these colors and prints have worked together and created a killer outfit which is very wearable and affordable! Add a bindi and a set of three dots to the sides of your eyes and on your chin and who knows you might even be outfit ready for garba (a Gujarati dance form which happens through the night through all nine days of festivities) 😍Hope you enjoyed the outfit and more importantly you are thinking of ways to recreate it πŸ˜ƒ

Outfit details : Skirt ready made and top material – Shilpi Alwarpet, stitched by – Vasthra (my tailor), Joshpuri Sandals – very old bought at some exhibition by mom (for mom πŸ˜‹), Earrings – Kushals, Watch – Tommy Hilfiger

Have a great week ahead readers. You’ve sure started it off well by reading my post πŸ˜‰ here’s a twirling picture of me like I have not a care in the world ! Enjoy! πŸ˜†

Festive Chic! + Giveaway Winner AnnouncementΒ

Hi all you lovely readers 😍! The only thing I am looking forward to after a long weekend is a short painless week which I hope runs away quickly!!

Moving on, Navrathri is right around the corner and I thought a good way to get back to my Fashion game would be to give y’all some inspiration for looks you can recreate this Navrathri! So stay tuned!

I bet everyone of us has this odd lehenga/ghagra/dhavani we are kinda ashamed of now because it looks like we just stepped in and out of a rainbow carrying the entire frikkin VIBGYOR out with us! One such Dhavani I own my is this one! (Don’t laugh 😐)

While I individually love the blouse and the skirt I hate, with all vehemence I can muster, the Dhavani or the green brocade portion of the attire. So I decided to tone down the whole look by just using the skirt giving this look a much needed twist!

That’s right! I wore this bright (I’ll blind you with this skirt type of bright) skirt with a very plain ethnic Kurti or short top!

It was like an explosion in my head when one day I saw this Kurti and this skirt lying next to each other in my closet and I thought why not?!?

It’s grand and underplayed at the same time and it is the perfect look for a function or a party/reception

The mild embroidery along the length of the top gives it a very traditional touch making the pairing so easy!

I completed the look with a pair of violet heels I bought over a year ago a sneak of which is shown here!

This is a look you can easily recreate for the festive season this year by pairing a bright piece with a sober one in the same colour scheme! I’ll try and add a few more outfits you can recreate this Navarathri to look fab and festive while going light on your pocket too!

Outfit Details : Skirt – Material from RmKV, Chennai and designed and stitched by my Tailor, Top – Shilpi CP Ramasamy Salai, Heels -Flipkart, on my lips – Lakme Absolut hi-Definition Matte in the shade Pink Caress

Seasonal Transitions – Winter! Cold but festive and happy!Β

It’s Monday! Lalalala 😍 I’m jumping with joy for Monday means posty-toasty day! Say yay for its Monday! ❀️ so I’m bringing the month long theme seasonal transitions to an end today with this exciting post about winter! Now winter as I’ve told you’ll several times before is pretty nonexistent in the tropical country I live in but hey it isn’t wrong to be fashionably prepared for a winter that might strike someday is it? Like what if you went on a penguin siting expedition and got stuck in the arctic circle one day? Ok..ok…what if your husband suddenly got a transfer to Alaska and you got to make lively there? Got you thinking dint I? Good now let’s move on and start of with our three looks for this winter babaayyy!

First up, Sandhya’s look

Now this cutie decided to look really chic and classy in her winter clothes as well and she transitioned from this warm pink light cardigan autumn look to her thick full arms body hugging tshirt with her wooly infinity scarf.

Since her skirt was the staple she did worked around the other elements like adding black stockings and edgy black and studded heels. I think she looks like an absolute stunner what do you say?😍😘

Also, thank you Sandhya for making this whole theme look so glamorous! It was wonderful and so easy and comfortable working with you. 😍

Next, Anusha’s look

Now Anusha retained her violet pants and her grey boots and replaced her grey sweatshirt and denim jacket with this light yellow crop top sweater! So cute!

This sweater may have been short but it was so cozy and comfortable to be in. You could always wear a full tshirt to cover your midriff whenever you want to go cropped for your sweaters! The gray gumboots were perfect for this season as well and hence we decided to retain it for this look!!

Finally, Shilpa’s look

Before I start of with my look I’m sure many of you are probably going to hate it and so I want give away a few disclaimers πŸ˜‚ this look is so laid back and it’s probably for one of those days you just want to run some errands in your locality and then go back home and re-watch Friends for the millionth time. That said, let’s get started πŸ™ˆ

Well…what do you think πŸ˜ƒ! For winter I retained my black maxi skirt and replaced the tshirt and denim shirt with a warm sweater! I also went from femine heels to my white kicks to complete the outfit

So this was a sweater I bought from Oasap.com for a vacation and while I and everybody who would have ever worn this sweater would have paired it with a pair of tights I decided to change things slightly with this look! And that’s why I look like a fur ball – warm but pretty unshapely! Haha! But who cares about how chic they look when at home or when they are going nowhere significant right? So for those days you can try this look I hope!! πŸ˜πŸ˜‚

That would be all from me folks! I hope you loved this whole theme! Your comments are what keep me motivated so please keep them coming! Did you like all the looks? Which one did you think was the easiest to achieve? Do tell me! I’m all ears πŸ‘‚πŸΌ love you! ❀️

Oh and P.S.: in case you were wondering, we thought it will just be wrong to have a photo shoot in broad daylight because it’s such a green summery place where I live and hence we waited for it to become twilight and then carried on with our shoot because we figured that was probably the only way we could get the winter effect!! Thank you Pranav for the awesome photography as always ❀️

Seasonal Transitions – Autumn! Layered Mild yet Happy

Hi everyone! I’m back with the next post πŸ™‚ and this ones about autumn πŸ‚πŸπŸŒΎ at last I’m on track with these seasons and bringing out an autumn post when it’s actually going to turn autumn in countries where four seasons exist. (If you’ve been reading this blog you’d have heard this rant a billion times – the place I live in, has just two seasons summer and rainy summer 😐😝)

So this time around we retained the concept of Sandhya wearing something short Anusha wearing pants and Shilpa (me) wearing maxi skirts! But for autumn and winter we changed the staple outfits! Let’s dive right into the look and you’ll understand what I mean πŸ˜ƒ

First up, Sandhya’s look

For autumn Sandhya decided to keep it light and floral below and warm and cozy above..! So she has worn this skater skirt (oh how cute 😘) with this peach cardigan/light sweater! She had kept the rest of the look very simple with very basic makeup and completed it with her nude pumps! What do you think? πŸ˜ƒ

Next we have Anusha’s look

Anusha’s look was all about comfort this time around too! So she switched from her palazzo (which she wore for the first two seasons) to these comfortable jeggings/tights thingy … For the top she wore a turtle neck sleeveless sweater and this floral jacket over it! She completed the look with these amazing boots Sandhya lent her and that was it!! I thought the jacket looked adorable with the whole outfit and added so much funk to the whole look and so did the boots πŸ˜ƒ

Finally! Shilpa’s look

My look was very autumny with my all black and a pop of blue kinda outfit! So I paired this beautiful maxi skirt with a plain black tshirt and over that I wore this laced denim crop top (courtesy my sister πŸ˜‹) and completed the look (which in my opinion was the best part of the look as well) with these super matching powder blue pumps.

The light layering in every look made us believe it will be just right for a light winter or autumn and that’s why we went ahead with these outfits! What do you think? How would you have played with staples like short skirts, maxis and pants for autumn? Do let me know 😘😊

P.S. Thank you Pranav for making us so much prettier than we are with your amazing photography 😍

Seasonal Transitions – Spring! Fun Young and Colorful

Helloooo all you lovely people! I’m actually glad for a change the weekend is over! It was probably because I have such amazing things lined up for the week (hint hint) and I’m literally raring to go!!

Anyway, all that can wait! Monday’s here and that only means one thing!! a new post is here! :* So while last week I gave you three styling ideas for summer – one with a skirt, one with a dress and one with a pant, today I’ll show you how the same three staples can be used to create looks for spring by changing just a few pieces here and there!!

First up! Sandhya’s look

So for Sandhya we interpreted spring to be the fun weather which requires a bit of layering because it’s still quite chilly!! So she wore a plain peach tshirt over her printed cotton dress to keep her warm and since knotting everything up is the trend now we thought knotting up the tshirt would give it that fun element! ToinkkkπŸ’‘!!

Wazzaa jumping shot!! 😍 we kept the rest of Sandhya’s look simple with a pair of floral flip flops in place of the gladiators because..hey..floral means spring…duh πŸ˜‚haha!!

Sandhya’s wardrobe (summer and spring) : dress – Reliance Trendz, Peach t-shirt and gladiator flats – thrifted Germany, Floral flip flops – thrifted Chennai

Next, Anusha’s look

For Anusha we decided to retain the Palazzo pants because they were airy comfy and colorful and we replaced to spaghetti lace top with a fitted almost body con type of tshirt because it keeps you warm and cozy again! However the top being black I quite dint find it too springy and hence decided the orange and blue statement necklace would be a perfect addition to the look! So there you have a nice springy and colorful Anusha!! 😍😘

Wazzzaa fun and candid pulling shot to show of the wideness of the palazzo pants!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜πŸ˜‚! Haha! I liked Anusha’s spring look the best because it looked so put together and yet so chic and comfy!

Anusha’s wardrobe (summer and spring) : Palazzo pants – Akritti (by Pantaloons), fitted black top and lace top – Sandhya’s (I honestly don’t know where they are from :/ ), flats – Bata, watch – Timex, Statement necklace – the Fashionhub (Instagram account), blue aviators -myntra online

Finally, Shilpa’s look

My look was all about florals! I traded my plain orange top for this floral crop top to ensure it had the right amount of color (a.k.a a lot of color) to depict the weather!

Wazzzaa Audrey Hepburn-esque pose!! 😝😝 so I completed my look by trading the flip flops for a pair of Zara golden flats (it looks like magic woven into a sandal! I swear!) and wearing my rounded cat eyed sunglasses in place of my aviators!

Shilpa’s wardrobe (spring and summer) : Coral skirt – 19β€’F (from pantaloons), orange shirt – Only India, turquoise beaded necklace – forever21, animal print aviators – Claire’s, red flip flops – lotto online, floral crop top – Westside, rounded animal print sunnies – Polkadot and you (Instagram account), golden flats – Zara, boho beaded wristband – blue eye collection!

That brings us to the end of the this week’s post! How would you transition from spring to summer with a staple piece? What defines spring and summer for you? What do you think about Sandhya Anusha and my looks? Do tell me! I’m all ears πŸ‘‚πŸΌπŸ‘‚πŸΌ

I have told you this a million times but every now and again I want to tell all my readers a big thank you again! (here take a kiss each 😘) you guys are probably the most supportive and encouraging people and I need that now more than anyother time! Thank you more than most! Have an amazing week ahead! Xoxo!

Seasonsal Transitions – Summer! Bright Light and Beachy!

Hola dearies! Happy yappy Monday to you all!! Do I sound too excited on a Monday? That is ONLY because I have an awesome post in store for y’all! :*

A little back story before we dive right into the post. A week back I was thinking what my next post/theme/couple of posts was going to be and just when an idea was forming in my head my sister told me she and her friend would shoot with me as well! Two cuties who look like a million bucks in just about anything they wear on my blog? I’m on!

So the Concept of the next four posts isss……1 2 3 4! Confused? That’s One Theme, Two Staples,Β ThreeΒ Girls andΒ FourΒ Seasons!!Β Β Ta-daaaaah! So its basically seasonal transitions of the same staple outfit. (Sonam Naidu..You remember you asked me to do this long ago with my red skirt? Thanks babe ❀ You inspired me!) So I will be showing you guys how to wade through the four seasons in a staple maxi skirt, my sister in pants and Sandhya in a dress! *So excited I could dieee*

Summer!Β

So this post is all about Summer! Summer is all about the beach and bright and light colors and that’s what we went for indeed!! πŸ˜€

First up, Sandhya’s Look

IMG_2433

IMG_2434Β IMG_3188

Firstly, lets all step back for a moment and admire this cutie…now lets proceed to the look. Ha! So we decided to keep Sandhya’s beach look very simple with this thin cotton brightly colored almost spaghetti strapped dress. She chose to pair it with these open gladiators which look elaborate and simple, dressy and laid back at the same time! Simple airy dresses like these scream summer and we love that! Dresses are also easily transitionable and you’ll see why we need that next week πŸ˜‰ (Suspense and all!! :P)

Next, Anusha’s Look

IMG_3190 (null) (1) (null) (2)

Anusha look like a pretty picture in these comfy as hell palazzo pants and this lacy spaghetti top. Palazzo are one more piece of outfit which define sweaty summers and she sure was uber-cozy in them! She finished her look with these open flats and a pair of blue aviators!

And finally,Β Shilpa’s LookΒ (yes mine!)

IMG_2491 IMG_2493

IMG_2490

I bought two maxis recently (like at last!!) and the minute I saw this coral one I knew this is exactly how I wanted to style it! This orange shirt and coral skirt combination almost give it a maxi dress like feel and knotting up the shirt made me feel breazy in my tummy and I loved it! (Lol!) I finished this look with these pretty F21 turquoise beads and I was pretty pleased with myself for thinking up of that color combination! (not at all pompous! Nope!) I also wore these cool blueeye collection beaded bracelet (birthday gift from *wink wink*) and my lazy flip flops to complete the look.

As I’m finishing this post I realise I’m running so late to work! So this is where I sign off peeps! Next week we three will show you how the same three staple outfits can be worn for spring! (Also, I just realised, I should have totally gone spring first and then come to summer isnt it?) Excited? Oh I sure am! Hope you enjoyed this post! I’m yapping too much today! Have an amazing week ahead! Love you! Stay Happy!! ❀ ❀ !!

Guess who gave their first interview!?!

I was walking down the street, walk-walk-walking down the street when I listened to this beat, Liss-Liss-listened to this beat!

I was asked to take the hot seat take the take the hot seat coz I gave a tete-a-tete ya ya I gave a tete-a-tete!!!  πŸ˜πŸ˜‚πŸŽΆπŸ™πŸ»πŸ˜ˆπŸ’ƒπŸΌ

So hi everyone!! My post is coming one day late, but if you have been following me on  Instagram or Facebook you’ll know I gave my first interview and all!! Oh gosh! πŸ’ž

Recently a new yet-to-launch app called Ethnic Threads contacted me because they wanted bloggers to try the beta version of their app prior to launching it and I agreed of course!! This is an app through which Indians all over the world get to meet each other exchange ideas and tips about how to nail the various ethnic traditional Indian looks and buy sell and rent ethnic garb from and to each other through the app!

I was enjoying this app when one day the creative head of the app mailed me asking if I could do an interview because she liked me style and I acted all lady like and agreed to do the interview…nah…just kidding…I jumped up and down like a monkey and said yaaaa baby letzzz do this! (First interview and all guys! Cut me some slack will ya?)

Here’s an excerpt of the interview:

ET: Tell us 3 interesting things about you.

SR: 1) There is a picture of me when I was five or six and I have draped one of my mum’s dupatta as a gown and worn her heals (probably a gazillion sizes bigger than mine) and posed proudly for the picture! What more proof did anyone else need that fashion is the field I was meant to be in? Haha!

2) This weekend has been a rather eventful one for me! Sunday I ran my maiden half marathon and Monday I get my first interview (a.k.a this one!) published! I’m loving it!

3) As crazy as it sounds I do a lot of online “window” shopping! And sometimes I apply only one filter – colour! (Dear online site, please show me any and every thing you sell -men’s wear or women’s wear in yellow! yes! Yellow!)

To read the rest of the interview head over to this URL and do read up!!!

Yayyyyy I’m happy! Hope you guys read it! And loved it!!! I rapped in my blog!! Whowwww !! Have a nice rest of the week lovely readers!! πŸ’–πŸ˜˜

Look Book Series : Tan Bag Look #3 – Off to Work

Hi guys! So today I’m back with the last and final look in the tan bag look book series! It’s a traditional Indian office wear look! It’s Monday and you’re looking for some inspiration to dress up to work aren’t you? Well let’s consider this post to be God sent then πŸ˜†πŸ˜‹

While in my last two looks with this bag I tried mixing it with contrasting materials like denim and colours like navy blue, in this look I took the amateur and straight forward route! Used the colours appearing in the bag to make an outfit! And Ta-da here’s what I got! 🎢

While you are looking at the pictures, imagine me to be standing next to you clapping my hands πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½ and jumping up and down like a five year old because I’m thrilled about how well I think these pictures have come out! All thanks to my friend and upcoming photographer Pranav and the amazing graffiti walls we decided to use as the backdrop!

Coming back to my outfit (yes I definitely will yap about it for sometime and you have to read through that! Please πŸ˜πŸ˜‚) So the white kurta and white leggings look has come up on the blog a couple of times before, as this is my go to attire when it’s not the dress but something else it the outfit which needs to stand out! In this case it was this beautiful Dupatta and the bag and the sandals of course πŸ˜ƒ I have to tell you a little some-some about this Dupatta now! My mom bought this Dupatta close to 15 years ago because she was at that Beautiful expensive Dupatta – with plain yet elegant Salwar kameez phase (don’t we all go through that phase? 😊) and my dad got a brainwave and decided to fabric paint some flowers into it because I think the salwar she wanted to wear it with had these similar flowers. But 15 years later the salwar is gone for good and what remains is this beautiful flowy dupatta and I found it stashed away by mom one day while digging for something else!! La la la laaaa laa! And ever since I found it I have been obsessing with it, pairing it with literally every plain salwar I own, wearing it to work atleast once a week and I decided why not show it to you guys as well πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ½ I also kind of sealed my brown-white play by adding these brown beads and brown (and new!) sandals to this look!

I think this look compliments the tan bag the best and it makes me office ready too in the process (win-win?). It is a really easy and effective idea to pair the color combination of the statement piece (bag in this case) to make your outfit!

Outfit Details – White Kurta – Fab India, White Leggings – Colors, Dupatta – really old, mum doesn’t really know where it is from although she thinks it’s either from Nalli or Kumaran, Chennai, Tan Bag – Bags by Anqi (Instagram), Sandals – Charles & Keith, Watch – Tommy Hilfiger, Beaded Necklace – Thrifted from Delhi

That’s all about my look, coming to something else I wanted to tell you guys!

Pranav and I are friends for the past five years now! And recently he told me how he liked everything about my blog except the quality of the photos and the locations I choose πŸ˜‚ Pranav wants to take up photography ( fashion or wildlife? Lol) as his serious hobby and very sweetly agreed to use me and my blog as his guinea pig and you won’t hear me complaining about that πŸ˜‹ thank you Pranav and welcome abroad the Frillthrills team (team? What team πŸ˜‚πŸ˜πŸ˜‚)

That’s it from me guys! Hope you enjoyed the look book series! Cheers to more such awesome posts coming your way and a bigger toast to the deadly Monday definitely coming your way πŸ˜‰!
