How to pull of a Graphic Tee w/o looking like a 9-year old – Part II

Hola all you wonderful people! So the new year is finally here! I (very clichΓ©d-ly) can’t believe a year has flown, sped, zoomed by so quickly! It has been a very good year but definitely hoping for better things in 2016!  Aren’t we all? πŸ™‚

So as the second part (finale!) of this Graphic Tee styling post, I bring to you two more ideas to style such funky tshirts without them looking age inappropriate on you! Let’s get started!

1. Skirt it or knot it

Wearing these tshirts with skirts are a very popular and easy styling way! Here I have used a Winter is coming (Game of thrones) crop top and paired it with my trusted pencil skirt! I have knotted the top because it sort of structured the look that way!

This was such a candid photo..my friend who was clicking the photo went “1..2..3..tummy tuck” and this was my instant reaction while tucking the tummy! such big tummy issues! πŸ˜›

Pro tip: I used a H&M in-skirt and it gave the pencil skirt such a neat finish..no more you-know-which lines I’m talking about lines while wearing pencil skirts! Yay!

2. Go Laid back

Going for the laid back look is probably the easiest thing you can do with such tee shirts. For this look I have chosen this wolverine tshirt (courtesy : sister’s wardrobe! Hehe) and paired it with my Khakhi shorts and my denim shirt. A last minute addition were those nerdy specs because my friend thought and I agreed, that it bound and sealed the look…I don’t know why we did that and that’s precisely what I was telling  her when she clicked this first shot! Haah!

Another candid capture! I think we were discussing about conquering the world and i was all “yeah lets do it! you mean now? Yeah why not?”

Pro Tip: I know pairing such short shorts with sneakers is the cutest thing to do, but try pairing them with flats or something boho like these mini boho gladiators I’m wearing because that looks pretty cute too! Lol (not pro at all!)

Outfit Details : Winter in coming crop top – Myntra, Pencil skirt and khakhi shorts – New York and Company, Nude pumps and boho gladiator sandals – Westside, Wolverine Teeshirt – Marvel comics website (I think!), Denim shirt – Street shopped in Mumbai, nerdy glasses – flicked from my friend!

So that brings us to the end of this post! Hope your first week of 2016 went by eventfully! I couldn’t wait with such good photos until Monday to post and hence this change in schedule! How’d you like this post? Tell me I’m all ears! 😍

P.S.: It was a new year and I HAD to do something new, so on Jan 1st I went and got my nose pierced! Cool eh?

How to pull of a graphic tee w/o looking like a 9 year old! Part-I

Hi everyone! Since I gave away the whole theme of the post right at the title let’s jump into the main content straightaway!

So I thought there are four ways to get away with wearing a graphic or a cartoon tshirt without having to look like :

a) You are sporting a right out of bed look or

b) a 9-year old basically!

I thought I’ll do this post as two parts with two ideas each and here they are!

For the two ideas of this post I chose a colorful graphic tshirt full of butterflies!

1. Give the look some structure

Adding an extra layer like a shirt or a jacket or a blazer is the easiest way to look put together! Since I’ve done the shirt over tshirt look several times (and since I simply wanted to wear the red blazer) I decided to go for a blazer πŸ˜¬πŸ‘πŸ½ Take a looky!

2. Give the look some much needed BLING! ✨✨

For the second look I kept the rest of the look the same and replaced the blazer for a statement necklace ! A heavy necklace or a pair of earrings really take such a pre-teen-like tshirt into a suave and sophisticated outfit! I know you might at first think it is crazy to wear bling with cartoon and graphic tees but once you find the right piece of jewelry you’ll love it! Take a peeky!

Outfit Details : Red Blazer – ONLY, Butterfly Tshirt – Gift, Jeans – 109β€’F, Statement necklace – Some Instagram account (forgot which one!), Heels – Zara, Watch – Fossil, Sunglasses – Rayban

I will be back next week with two more ideas to look neat in a cartoon tshirt but until then make sure you try the two ideas in this post! ❀️ Happy Monday!

Give it up for the Jumpsuit!Β

Hi my lovely readers! Do you remember me ranting on multiple occasions about how a jumpsuit never ever ever fits me perfectly? Well I atlast got my hands on the jumpsuit which was destined to be mine recently and I couldn’t wait to show it to you guys 😍 so here we go!

I styled the jumpsuit with two statement pieces. One of which was this golden messenger bag which I absolutely love! My next style was :

My second statement piece was this absolutely beautiful silk blazer. I loved this look more because it added so much definition to the waistline and gave me some shape πŸ˜ƒ

Outfit details : Jumpsuit – Forever21, Bag – BagsbyAnqi, Blazer – VESA Online, Heels -Westside

Hope you guys enjoyed this short and sweet post πŸ˜ƒ I realised I was so caught up in doing theme based posts that I was never doing simple outfit posts any more and that’s why this one ❀️ have a an amazing week ahead. Let’s hope it passes as quickly and painlessly as a strip of chocolate wax being pulled out 😜 Enjoy your day!

FestiveFun IndoWestern ColorBurst!Β

Hi and GoodMorning my lovely readers! Hope you had enough and more fun this past weekend to take on Monday headstrong! πŸ˜› As a final part to my festive fun theme here’s my last IndoWestern fusion look. I have paired my palazzo pants which has shown its “flair” on this blog long ago with a contrast kurta and a colorful dupatta! Let’s go straight into the look!

I love this pink and blue combination and I often wear this kurta to work with blue bottoms. So pairing it with these blue palazzos were a no-brainer!

I completed the look with a topknot and a gorgeous pair of heels in the same colour scheme!

Sorry about the squinting in every photo! We shot this look in the afternoon and the sun was in my eye at every angle!

Another way of wearing this look and making it look a little festive is wearing a tank top and wearing the dupatta around it knotted at the waist like a jacket! Take a looook!

My beautiful neckpiece is seen at last in this look! Yayyy 😍

Such a look is so easy to recreate because who doesn’t have palazzos these days and they look gorgeous with kurtas. Also, if you are one of those girls who has lost interest in wearing jeans then these outfits are the way to go babe trust me! Advice from a person who’s been there and done that!

Outfit details : Kurta and Palazzo pants – Fabindia; Heels – Flipkart; Square long chain – Sundari Silks; Tank top (racer back) – Jockey; Dupatta – Mom’s very old and Unknown!

That’s all from me folks! Hope you enjoyed this short and sweet post! Please tell me that you’ll try recreating this look for the festivities ahead! Have an amazing week! May all your to-do lists have nothing but satisfying strike throughs by the end of this week! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜ƒ Ciao!

Plum NaturStudio All-day-wear Kohl Kajal – A Review

You know how they say “things just fell into place”? That’s what happened to me with this post! I was not going to post this week because I had nothing going on and I really wanted more articles in my skin and beauty theme! But miraculously, late last week Plum Cosmetics sent me their newly launched Plum NaturStudio Kajal cum liner for a review and the review is Readyyyy!!

So Plum Cosmetics is a brand I have been loving for a while now. I have tried their Green Tea face mask which works very well for me. As a brand they stand for a couple of things : it is india’s first online cosmetic brand which is always free of parabens, phthalates, SLS and other harmful chemicals.

This Kajal-cum-eyeliner came to me last Thursday and they sent it with a Dual sized pencil sharpener and a complimentary face wash too (yayyy)

I have been using this pencil through the weekend and on Monday I wore to office conducting a small experiment of sorts where I took pictures of my eyes in regular intervals to show you guys how the liner and the kohl hold up!

The pencil itself looks something like this:

It is a pencil but gives a highly pigmented and dark gel-like finish which I love! The brown area which is usually wood in normal pencils is PVC-free plastic and that makes it a little tough to sharpen.

The plum website has the following words about this Kohl liner

For the first time in India, an ophthalmologically approved kajal pencil with a gel-liner like performance. 100% smudge-proof, water-proof single-swipe brilliant black kohl-cum-liner that’s also gentle on your eyes.

Ingredients used:

Hydrogenated Castor Oil :Β Highly hydrating and nourishing for skin and hair with healing properties. The hydrogenation makes it stable and compatible with the other ingredients.

Rice Bran WaxΒ :Β A relatively unknown but amazingly effective moisturizer that lends creaminess and hydrating properties to any formula!

Natural Vitamin EΒ :Β Needs no introduction as an antioxidant skin care specialist that’s essential for hydrated, younger looking skin.

Do note that owing to its high performance benchmark, this product is not all natural – but is 100% safe and tested by dermatologists and ophthalmologists.
Moving on to my experiment and then to the pros and cons:

On applicationΒ

Β Β

Β Β
It took me roughly three minutes to complete the eyes – kohl plus liner. The same stick is to be used for both purposes. Now I am a liquid liner junkie and I find gel based liners very tough and impossible sometimes to apply but this pencil does the trick very well giving a dark and beautiful finish to it. It is your perfect friend for a smokey eyed look!

Four Hours laterΒ

Until four hours I swear there was no difference in the way the kajal and the liner held up and I found no use in uploading those pictures (which is a good thing by the way haha!) and hence moving straight onto the fourth hourΒ

By the end of the fourth hour this was the look. The eyeliner and the kajal look just the same except that the kajal had slightly come out of the waterline. I have a pretty watery waterline and I am guessing that happens with time with any good liner.

Seven hours later

Β Now here was the where I found fading. The eyeliner on my left eye and the kajal on both eyes were gradual fading by the seventh hour. But the liner on the whole was still holding up well, just that the bright dark black had become lesser intense.

Nine Hours laterΒ

Β Β

Β Β
At the end of nine hours the kajal had faded a little more and spilling more out of my waterline and into my lashes and right outside my eye and the eyeliner a little more faded. I would be lying if I said it was just like when I applied it cause that’s not true. The fading is pretty obvious but I have never ever used an eyeliner or kajal for so long anyway!

Now moving onto the pros and cons in bullet points

ProsΒ

  1. The thick beautiful dark output. I have never got such a beautiful result in any eyeliner and I loved that!
  2. Being very sensitive eyed I was so worried that this kajal might not suit me (trust me the most expensive kajals I have bought are still sitting in my drawer brand new because they didn’t suit my eye:( ) but this one is so gentle on the skin! I loved it.
  3. It’s very long lasting and going by a whole day without touching up my kajal is pretty unheard of for me and it was a reality with this one yayy!
  4. A lot of Kajal stocks claim to be two in one but I have been able to use none of them as eyeliners. But this one is truly 2-in-1 and works wonders on top and below the eye!

Cons

  1. Rate : At Rs.425 it’s not particularly the cheapest Kohl stick in town. I guess we pay the premium for the quality and the fact that it’s two in one and because it suits all skin and eye types!
  2. The sharpening part is pretty heart wrenching. I needed to sharpen it every time to get a smooth thin eyeliner line and when I sharpen it I see so much of the product getting smudged and wasted on the sharpener and I was pretty disgruntled about that!

So I would give this NaturStudio All Day Wear Kohl Liner a sure 4.5 on 5 with a 0.5 negative only for the second point on wastage because it truly scarred me guys! (πŸ˜‚) Here’s a link to the Plum website where you can order this Kohl Liner for yourself. For a limited period they are giving off the sharpener free for every order of the liner so hurry! 😍

Seasonsal Transitions – Summer! Bright Light and Beachy!

Hola dearies! Happy yappy Monday to you all!! Do I sound too excited on a Monday? That is ONLY because I have an awesome post in store for y’all! :*

A little back story before we dive right into the post. A week back I was thinking what my next post/theme/couple of posts was going to be and just when an idea was forming in my head my sister told me she and her friend would shoot with me as well! Two cuties who look like a million bucks in just about anything they wear on my blog? I’m on!

So the Concept of the next four posts isss……1 2 3 4! Confused? That’s One Theme, Two Staples,Β ThreeΒ Girls andΒ FourΒ Seasons!!Β Β Ta-daaaaah! So its basically seasonal transitions of the same staple outfit. (Sonam Naidu..You remember you asked me to do this long ago with my red skirt? Thanks babe ❀ You inspired me!) So I will be showing you guys how to wade through the four seasons in a staple maxi skirt, my sister in pants and Sandhya in a dress! *So excited I could dieee*

Summer!Β

So this post is all about Summer! Summer is all about the beach and bright and light colors and that’s what we went for indeed!! πŸ˜€

First up, Sandhya’s Look

IMG_2433

IMG_2434Β IMG_3188

Firstly, lets all step back for a moment and admire this cutie…now lets proceed to the look. Ha! So we decided to keep Sandhya’s beach look very simple with this thin cotton brightly colored almost spaghetti strapped dress. She chose to pair it with these open gladiators which look elaborate and simple, dressy and laid back at the same time! Simple airy dresses like these scream summer and we love that! Dresses are also easily transitionable and you’ll see why we need that next week πŸ˜‰ (Suspense and all!! :P)

Next, Anusha’s Look

IMG_3190 (null) (1) (null) (2)

Anusha look like a pretty picture in these comfy as hell palazzo pants and this lacy spaghetti top. Palazzo are one more piece of outfit which define sweaty summers and she sure was uber-cozy in them! She finished her look with these open flats and a pair of blue aviators!

And finally,Β Shilpa’s LookΒ (yes mine!)

IMG_2491 IMG_2493

IMG_2490

I bought two maxis recently (like at last!!) and the minute I saw this coral one I knew this is exactly how I wanted to style it! This orange shirt and coral skirt combination almost give it a maxi dress like feel and knotting up the shirt made me feel breazy in my tummy and I loved it! (Lol!) I finished this look with these pretty F21 turquoise beads and I was pretty pleased with myself for thinking up of that color combination! (not at all pompous! Nope!) I also wore these cool blueeye collection beaded bracelet (birthday gift from *wink wink*) and my lazy flip flops to complete the look.

As I’m finishing this post I realise I’m running so late to work! So this is where I sign off peeps! Next week we three will show you how the same three staple outfits can be worn for spring! (Also, I just realised, I should have totally gone spring first and then come to summer isnt it?) Excited? Oh I sure am! Hope you enjoyed this post! I’m yapping too much today! Have an amazing week ahead! Love you! Stay Happy!! ❀ ❀ !!

Look Book Series : Tan Bag Look #3 – Off to Work

Hi guys! So today I’m back with the last and final look in the tan bag look book series! It’s a traditional Indian office wear look! It’s Monday and you’re looking for some inspiration to dress up to work aren’t you? Well let’s consider this post to be God sent then πŸ˜†πŸ˜‹

While in my last two looks with this bag I tried mixing it with contrasting materials like denim and colours like navy blue, in this look I took the amateur and straight forward route! Used the colours appearing in the bag to make an outfit! And Ta-da here’s what I got! 🎢

While you are looking at the pictures, imagine me to be standing next to you clapping my hands πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½ and jumping up and down like a five year old because I’m thrilled about how well I think these pictures have come out! All thanks to my friend and upcoming photographer Pranav and the amazing graffiti walls we decided to use as the backdrop!

Coming back to my outfit (yes I definitely will yap about it for sometime and you have to read through that! Please πŸ˜πŸ˜‚) So the white kurta and white leggings look has come up on the blog a couple of times before, as this is my go to attire when it’s not the dress but something else it the outfit which needs to stand out! In this case it was this beautiful Dupatta and the bag and the sandals of course πŸ˜ƒ I have to tell you a little some-some about this Dupatta now! My mom bought this Dupatta close to 15 years ago because she was at that Beautiful expensive Dupatta – with plain yet elegant Salwar kameez phase (don’t we all go through that phase? 😊) and my dad got a brainwave and decided to fabric paint some flowers into it because I think the salwar she wanted to wear it with had these similar flowers. But 15 years later the salwar is gone for good and what remains is this beautiful flowy dupatta and I found it stashed away by mom one day while digging for something else!! La la la laaaa laa! And ever since I found it I have been obsessing with it, pairing it with literally every plain salwar I own, wearing it to work atleast once a week and I decided why not show it to you guys as well πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ½ I also kind of sealed my brown-white play by adding these brown beads and brown (and new!) sandals to this look!

I think this look compliments the tan bag the best and it makes me office ready too in the process (win-win?). It is a really easy and effective idea to pair the color combination of the statement piece (bag in this case) to make your outfit!

Outfit Details – White Kurta – Fab India, White Leggings – Colors, Dupatta – really old, mum doesn’t really know where it is from although she thinks it’s either from Nalli or Kumaran, Chennai, Tan Bag – Bags by Anqi (Instagram), Sandals – Charles & Keith, Watch – Tommy Hilfiger, Beaded Necklace – Thrifted from Delhi

That’s all about my look, coming to something else I wanted to tell you guys!

Pranav and I are friends for the past five years now! And recently he told me how he liked everything about my blog except the quality of the photos and the locations I choose πŸ˜‚ Pranav wants to take up photography ( fashion or wildlife? Lol) as his serious hobby and very sweetly agreed to use me and my blog as his guinea pig and you won’t hear me complaining about that πŸ˜‹ thank you Pranav and welcome abroad the Frillthrills team (team? What team πŸ˜‚πŸ˜πŸ˜‚)

That’s it from me guys! Hope you enjoyed the look book series! Cheers to more such awesome posts coming your way and a bigger toast to the deadly Monday definitely coming your way πŸ˜‰!

Print Preview – Sway the Indian Way 2.0!

A quick post this one! Ever since I launched a facebook page for my blog I haven’t been giving the usual life updates that I used to. Granted, I don’t lead a page3 life (not even page 16 if you ask me πŸ˜‚) but it used to be fun, talking about completely random stuff. But going big means channeling and focusing on strengths which effectively put an end to these ancillary topics. *Sob. Sob.* However, here’s a “life update” I’m gonna have to give you! I’m learning STITCHING.!! Ahhhh!!! Yes its the most fun thing to do! I enrolled myself in a stitching class recently and boy am I having a ball – a cotton ball – a stitched cotton ball – hahaha! So far I’ve done a pillow cover (elementary my dear Watson!), a kids jubba, an A-Line dress (more on that later 😍) and now an umbrella skirt. Yay!

So when my teacher asked me to buy material for my next class which was going to be an umbrella skirt I didn’t quite know what print I wanted. I went shopping and a bit of picking and prodding ended with me getting a beautiful material. Add a class of sewing hemming and a lot of struggle and Ta-daaaa πŸ˜‡πŸ˜πŸ™ŒπŸ‘‡πŸ‘—

image

image

image

I won’t say this skirt was easy for me to stitch. Especially the waist where I had to insert an elastic into a slit and sew up after that but I had fun all the same with my tailor-teacher. πŸ˜πŸ“βœ‚πŸ“πŸ˜‡

image

image

This skirt is basically a patchwork of odds and bits of plain and kalamkari prints which were probably in excess. It must have involved so much labor because use square you see there has been individually sewn to the next square. I got this running material for Rs.200 per meter x 3 meters. So for Rs.600 ($10) I have a lovely summery printed maxi ready!! 😍

Outfit Details : Plain T-shirt: Globus, Skirt: Material Color’s Choice Chennai, Stitched by yours truly, Necklace: Gift, Platform heels : Khadims Chennai.

I found a lot of Indian fabrics and prints in this skirt. Its a prettiest and the most satisfying thing I have done and/or worn in a long time. Hope you guys liked this post. Thank you so much readers for coming back and showing so much love every single time. πŸ’

Major sequin crush

Its unfair you guys. Its unfair how some of you have found your perfectly sequined piece to add glamour to your wardrobe when I have searched the lengths of my world in vain.

image

Wherever and whenever I see an outfit involving sequins I imagine wearing them and immediately I get the image of a dance performance in the middle of which I have come to show off my dance appropriate sequin piece to my minds eye.

image

That thought disturbs and disgruntles me enough to meekly place that outfit back in its shelf and walk to other familiar shelves silently!!

image

I have never bought sequins, albeit thinking and dreaming about them half a million times a day, every day. And I choose to end that by Rhonda Byrne’s mechanism of positively wishing for it so that my universe schemes towards making that perfect sequined wardrobe addition I’ve been waiting for pop in front of me!

image

Using a pop of sequin and still managing to make the whole outfit look like you haven’t tried too hard is pretty achievable is what I gathered when I dug into the Pinterest ocean for sequin outfit inspiration!

image

Hope my sequin crazy bug bit you just as hard after seeing all these beautiful outfits and accessories involving the sequin! Happy hunting for your perfect glitter statement piece. Wish me luck while I look for mine!

Palazzo puh-lease-o!

Urgh I’m on a row with the title making part of my brain. πŸ˜› Anyway, I have been very apprehensive about buying palazzo pants for sometime now because it was a trend I was having a constant love-hate relationship with. This is because I really envied tall leggy lasses strutting in palazzo pants everywhere while yours truly is short and hmmm..how do I put this delicately.. not so leggy or lassy. Hahaha..
But I recently saw one blogger, who told me she was also short, rock these pants and thus I gained confidence to buy one. And so I did, and so an outfit of the day post. πŸ˜€

image

image

image

I bought these beauties at FabIndia an amazing chain of stores in India.

image

Hahaha I swear to God this meme was already there on Google. So you can imagine what this store does to us Indians. What’s amazing about this store is that they adopt every trend in traditional Indian fabric to give it a Desi-Twist and all of us fall for it straight away πŸ™‚

I ensured that they were extremely loose so that they looked almost like a long skirt (just in case I again start feeling palazzos are not my thing :/ )

I paired them with a plain black fitting t-shirt and wore my new violet pumps because…no reason…just because I love them πŸ˜›

What do you think about the look? Do tell me!
