Denims, peaches and pearls

I had a peach statement necklace sleeping for an uncomfortably long time in my wardrobe. I had to..simply had to dig it out and wear it with the first outfit that I could reach out for and voila!!

image

You guys didn’t guess that the first shirt I might reach out to would be my denim one? Too bad. 😉

image

Because the necklace has pearls on it and also because I had no earring in peach I decided to pair this look with big pearl earrings! Tada a random comfortable confused look was achieved!!

Have a fun weekend folks!! 🙂

I got my Neon this Too! -Festive Editon

I attended two weddings in a span of four days and only once I got done with them both did I notice a trend. A trend I’ve infact been yapping about in my blog. A trend I’ve been tracking as part of my four post series. Yah! Neon! Both my outfits had neon of varying proportions in them. Ok the yapping stops here! Photos now!

Look #1: White Anarkali with Neon Embroidery

image

image

So an anarkali is basically a long gown, fitted till the waisted and flowing from there till a few inches above the ground. While my anarkali suit is pure white it has beautiful neon pink and green embroidery in the torso. Anarkalis are suitable for weddings of colleagues and not so close friends 😜 and for not so grand occasions!
Moving on…because I’m so excited to present this second look;)
Look #2: bright striking glaring Beautiful NEON Saree!

image

A Saree is a very traditional attire which almost every Indian woman loves to buy/stock/hoard

image

I wore this Saree for a friend’s reception. I believe a Saree should justify the occasion for which it is worn. 😜 Sarees should be worn for events involving family and close friends.

image

This saree was a kinda impulse buy. I paid a bomb for it when I saw it online and I should say I wasn’t very happy with the way it looked when I received the Saree. The moment I stitched my blouse to resemble a boat neck top and it came out so well, I was a happy girl!

image

I was still apprehensive about being the living traffic light, what with such bright colors spewed all over me, but I decided what the heck, if a fashion blogger won’t sport this, who will? And I went for it!

That brings me to the end of Part two of my neon series. Also I’ve given Indian bloggers the idea of incorporating neon into their festive collection wardrobe! Hope you try it out 🙂

P.S. on a totally different note, it was my close friends birthday and I did this for her

image

I stole a piece of wood from some carpenters I knew and a handful of nails too and I sat and banged them into the wood 😜 and used red wool to form the heart and painted the words with acrylic. Needless to say, as is the case with anything handmade, she absolutely loved it! 🙂

Super-Suit for the Pseudo-Superhero

Have I told you guys about this before? I teach English through an NGO to kids from deprived backgrounds.

Now this NGO I work for is really cool. The people are crazy, fun and amazing. I’ve always felt like I’ve been around extremely judgmental people in life, but here you could be who you want and they will wholly embrace that. Which I love.. Does all this even make sense? Yes moving on! 😜

So for the first time after I joined, we had a small get together where close to 100 of us met up last weekend.

The theme for this party was Superheros We apparently were the real superheros doing better superhero-y things than the reel superheros… Get the drift? 😁

I decided to be Captain America and decided to spice things up by adding one additional piece of clothing! You’ll see.

Yes! A little flashback now 💫💫 my school sports day was one big flashy event. Selected students (the student council they call it) were asked to march in blazers-shirt-tie outfit. That blazer is usually bought from the cheapest shop possible because we used to wear them exactly once. So much so, my blazer is not even to be found. Burnt it perhaps! Lol 😂 (what! It was an eye sore Ok?) This blazer on the other hand is my sister’s. Since she finished school only two years back, this blazer was safely put away in the loft and I in a very fashion bloggerly style hunted it down because I decided a superhero outfit needed a blazer! How about that!?!

image

I wore this superhero-suit with plain blue jeans.

image

Bad photos as usual because..well..I didn’t have my photographer-work-friend to click them!

image

Could I entertain you with a wink and distract you from the otherwise shoddy photography and the background? 😎
Haha!! Have an amazing rest of the week y’all! 💝💝

P.S. 5 hours after publishing this post, I thought up of a better title so I went ahead and changed it from Super-suiting to Super-Suit for the Pseudo-Superhero 😜

Sprightly Sunday Inspiration

I have always wanted to write. About incidents and events in my life. But there was one small hitch however! I never thought any event in my life has been so funny, or inspiring or just so dramatic for me to pen it down creatively. So I thought today to myself, “let me not go looking for stellar memories and moments in my life because that is just an excuse to postpone writing.”
So I decided to write short events once a week about a friend, a family member, an acquaintance, a stranger, whoever. Someone who in their own way has shown me some light, given my some hope, some inspiration to move on with life on a positive note. I just want to write and which better platform than my own blog to start with! I call this my Sprightly Sunday Inspiration segment (I spent exactly 0.1 seconds coining that segment name!)
Moving on to my story now!

Father
Every time he told me “you don’t know what you would get if you just ask,” I would just scoff at him. Every time he told me “you don’t know your worth until you express your desire to find out,” I would mumble that I would try next time. Or pretend I didn’t hear that. Or tell him it’s easy for him to say without being in my situation.

Be it a doubt at school which I didn’t ask. Be it a drop back home request to a friend which I never asked. Be it authorities and responsibilities at work which I felt I’m entitled to which I didn’t ask. Be it anything. I just accepted. I wouldn’t say it never passed my head that I probably should speak up and stand for what’s mine. But hey! That involves work right? So I let that be and I let me be and the situation be and moved on.

My dad on the other hand always asked. He did not necessarily get what he asked for every time but the fact that he tried, remains. Coming from a large family which barely made ends meet has that impact on people I guess. Unless you wail for it you won’t be fed. (There is literally a proverb like that in my language. :))

I never noticed that he truly led by example when it came to this quality all these years. Tales about him fighting with his dad to go to a bigger town to do his higher studies in a big city because an Indian Institute of Technology was clearly better that an engineering college in his village fell on my deaf ears. Tales about him constantly tying to better himself through feedback and self-analysis went unnoticed. Even small things like tales about him getting better deals at bargain shops than us and ending up making great friends with the shopkeepers were brushed off as good luck. Last week however something happened which brought all this to perspective. So, my dad is a external consultant to a small valve making firm. A major valve exhibition happens at Dusseldorf, Germany every year and that’s like the spring-break hangout zone for all these valve engineers. So, one marketing dude from this valve making firm had been chosen by the MD to visit this exhibition. On knowing this, my dad, who loves such exhibitions merely because of the number of people and the technology he gets to meet, threw a long shot and sent a detailed e-mail to the MD of this firm. He listed down how his company has had such an upswing ever since he joined them and how he has been dedicating most of his time for this particular company and because of all this how he was equally eligible to visit this exhibition. After sending this mail he totally forgot about it because it definitely was a hundred-to-one type of shot he had taken. A couple of days later this MD calls my dad and says “what are you doing answering calls? Aren’t you busying yourself over the packing?”

How cool is that? So turns out, the MD realized how important it was that my dad goes and meets the prospective clients and customers and brings his technical knowledge to the table at this exhibition.

Had my dad not asked, the MD might or might not have realized what a good option it will be to send my dad. But would that realization happened on time? I doubt that!

So ask before it becomes late my friend. You’d rather have tried and failed than to have not tried at all and not known which way luck would have swayed.

Random Rambling

I thought I should say hey to y’all since its been a while! So sit back and get ready to read a post filled with utterly random tidbits from my life! 😂

I at last watched the movie Gone Girl this weekend and the single best fitting adjective to describe the movie : W.E.I.R.D!

image

I mean…I really loved the acting, the beautifully different twists in the story line and even some characters…but the whole film as such – weird, the ending – weird, the way she is so hell bent on her psychotic goals in the beginning and somewhere down the line she losing her sense of purpose – weird. I have probably not evolved enough to wrap my head around such a complicated storyline, but whatever maybe the case, I didn’t come out of that theater feeling very thrilled with what I saw. On a completely different note however, Rosamund Pike, you beauty! 😍

Moving on, I recently splurged on this really cool set of water soluble pencil colors from staedtler.

image

And I have been going crazy using them. A sample if you must! 😝

image

So you just have to amateurishly scribble with the color pencil and then dab a wet brush over it to get a beautifully smooth water color texture.! Easy Peasy! 😍👏

Also, I was rummaging through my closet the other day, I figured I had this highly under-rated T-shirt. You know how comic T-shirts have been in vogue forever right? So this is a comic T-shirt too. It however isn’t the usual superman nor batman! Its not angry birds or minions! Its a cartoon of the happy but confused, loud but cheerful people and the general labyrinth of chaos so peculiar to my country India in general and my city Chennai in particular. 😍

image

It is such an easy to wear T-shirt and it is my go to when I’m going somewhere quick and I don’t have much time to think! Also, just looking at that T-shirt lifts my spirits! Doesn’t it? Wait check out the close up and decide for yourself!

image

I bought it off a small stall at the City Center mall in my city. Such Colorful! Much Wow! Ya? 😂😝
Have a fabulous week y’all! 🙂

Quick update!

A month ago I joined a running group. Though I’ve run two short distance marathons before, this time (on Sunday) I tried a 10km run (that is 6.3 miles approximately) with a bit a practice. And guess what? I ran the whole distance. No walking, no spraining, no slouching and giving up! Ran, ran and ran! 😍 I was definitely one of the slowest, but that did not matter as long as I ran!

image

image

It was refreshing and a great experience although I want to work on my speed  because running becomes effective only above a certain pace.
With a lot of marathons lined up I am definitely trying speed improvement! 🙂

Colorblocking and Subtlety!

As much as I like to go really bold with color blocking I’m still learning and taking only my baby steps

I went to work last Friday wearing a subtly colorblocked outfit which ended up with people telling me the color combination looked pretty good. So I’m happy! 😜

image

I have worn this denim shirt one before here!
For this look I paired it with a plain peach T-shirt and black jeans.
From a single staple black T-shirt I’ve gone onto owning a pink, a peach and a white plain T-shirt. I love the fact that they can be so effortlessly paired and lend themselves so well to be layered or when we want some other piece to be the hero of the look!

image

While for the photoshoot I tied up the bottom of my denim shirt-turned-jacket, I had it fully open during the rest of my day. 😆

image

image

A bit too casual for office ya think? I thought so too. LOL! 😂 Oh well! What has been done has been done. So long folks 😘😜 Have an amazing week y’all!

The Week And Wishes!

Hi y’all! 💞 It has been an amazing week and half and there have been quite a few share worthy happenings 🙂
Diwali!
The most important Hindu festival is here and we spent it in style both at home and at work. The whole country celebrates the victory of good over evil by bursting crackers, lighting diyas and gorging on sweets. My office was also a scene of celebration.!

image

(The last picture would be me getting a high over crackers 😝)

Pencil Sketching
I’ve started taking doodling to new heights with these elaborate full paged doodles. I really enjoy doing them and the fact that they are absolutely useless doesn’t bother me one bit! 😂

image

image

And while most of them are pointless, I tried the Audrey Hepburn minimalist pencil sketching technique and I must say I’m quite happy. Can u tell the original from my drawing? Duh of course you can 😂😝

image

Bay Decoration
Festivals in general and important ones in specific solicit weeks upon weeks of ongoing celebrations. In that regard, Diwali is no different and our office just needs a reason to have fun, so we had a bay decoration contest (fun fun fun!) And our bay chose whatsapp to be the theme!
So this included our entire bay being dressed in shades of green and white, and each of our cubicles had a selfie of us with a “last seen at desk” time and a status! The entry to our bay even said “Join Group” and the exit said “Delete and Exit Group” LoL!
Needless to say, our bay won the contest. 😎 So in keeping with the theme, we did a Whatsapp Rangoli (Rangolis are patterns drawn on the floor and filled with color powder) Check out me and muh rangoli yo! 😜

Birthdays!
Having your mom’s and dad’s birthdays in the same week can have an acute slimming effect on your pocket. Hence I chose to go easy on my mom (just a cake! Sorry mom you kinda had everything you wanted. 😝) and go big on my dad’s gift – a watch!  And they both loved their gifts! 🙂

image

So!! What do you think? An awesome week or what? 🙂 hope you had and are still having an amazing week. Stay happy, stay safe and wish y’all a very Happy Diwali! May Good always win over Evil, may the Light always help those in Dark!

Orange is the new Black – Part 4 (I swear this is the last part!)

So, roughly 20 posts ago I did three out of a four series post which had orange as the hero of the look. Do you remember? I won’t blame you if you don’t, I completely forgot about it myself 😝.
I thought now was the best time to complete this series because of three important reasons:
1. I got nothing else to show you guys
2. I got nothing else to show you guys
aaaand….
3. I got nothing else to show you guys!!!!
Hahaha. So buckle up to be tortured with this one. Yes yes I love y’all too. 😝😘

So for a change my tights were the element adding color to the costume. It was a lucky and a pretty find!. But I had to hunt for long to get a tunic to go with the tights. You know we enter this inescapable cycle of buying one piece of clothing and it just sees the darkest depths of our closet before we find its match? Well that’s exactly what happened to this tights 😝
I paired this dress with the same terracotta jhumkas I’ve shown you once before and the ethnic slippers which featured in my previous post.!

Hope you like the look. Have an amazing rest of the week y’all! Stay happy! 🙂
